Autostrada Biennale announces the chief curator for its first edition

Prizren, 16 November 2016 – International Biennale of Contemporary Art “Autostrada Biennale” with great pleasure announces Mr. Manray Hsu (Taipei, Taiwan) as a chief curator for its first edition which will be held on August and September 2017 in Prizren, Kosova.

Manray Hsu is an independent curator and art critic based in Taipei.

Manray is co-founder and director (2010-2012) of Taipei Contemporary Art Center, editor-in-chief of ArtCo Magazine Mainland China edition (2013-2014), and teaches in art academies in Taiwan and abroad. Living and working in Berlin in early 2000s, Manray has worked with contemporary artists in Europe, including those from the former East.

Among various exhibitions, Manray has curated 2000 Taipei Biennial (with Jerome Sans), Wayward Economy (2004, Main Trend Gallery, Taipei), Naked Life (2006, MOCA Taipei), Liverpool Biennial in 2006 (with Gerardo Mosquera), 2008 Taipei Biennial (with Vasif Kortun), Biennale Cuvee in 2009 (the OK Center for Contemporary Art, Linz), and Forum Biennial of Taiwanese Contemporary Art in 2010 (Taipei Contemporary Art Center). Manray has served as juror for Venice Biennale (2001), Istanbul Biennial (2001), Hermes Art Award for Korean Contemporary Art (2007), Hugo Boss Asian Art Award (2012), etc.

A main focus of Manray’s work is on politics of mobility, borders of different forms and urban conditions in the age of globalisation, flows of capital, and activism-related art. Recent research includes interdisciplinary art practices related to environmental issues, multi-species interactions in urban and rural scenarios, with a special interest in viewing the Anthropocene from the perspective of Chinese Daoist philosophy.

Manray Hsu is open to deal with the intriguing context of Kosova, looking forward to exploring Kosova from political, social and cultural aspects. He shows deep enthusiasm about the issues regarding centers and peripheries of globalization, within Autostrada Biennale's innovative and creative highway.

Coming from Taiwan, also an internationally under-recognized country, he is the right person that will approach Kosova's from a unique historical and cultural perspective.
