Autostrada Biennale and QRTK Prizren Sign a Memorandum of Cooperation for the Promotion and Creative Re-functioning of Cultural Heritage
Prizren, March 12, 2025 – Autostrada Biennale and the Regional Center for Cultural Heritage in Prizren (QRTK) have formalized a new partnership aimed at promoting and innovatively re-functioning cultural heritage sites of significant historical value. This memorandum outlines a shared commitment to transforming cultural heritage into a dynamic space of interaction, where contemporary art and the city's rich history intertwine to inspire creativity and foster social development.
As part of this collaboration, the fifth edition of Autostrada Biennale, curated by Erzen Shkololli and taking place from July 5 to October 5, 2025, will feature a series of events, including exhibitions, guided tours, and educational programs. These initiatives seek to engage the local community and professionals in the field, reinforcing the role of cultural heritage as a living, evolving space.
Samir Hoxha, Director of QRTK Prizren, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating:"Continuing our collaboration with Autostrada Biennale is a natural step in our efforts to integrate Prizren’s cultural heritage into a broader, international context. This cooperation has demonstrated that the synergy between contemporary art and cultural heritage can have a profound impact on the city’s development while strengthening our ties with the global community."
Leutrim Fishekqiu, co-founder and executive director of Autostrada Biennale, emphasized the memorandum as an opportunity to promote cultural heritage through contemporary art and enhance collaboration between public institutions and cultural organizations: "This partnership allows us to explore new ways in which contemporary art can bring cultural heritage closer to people. Through joint projects, we aim to ensure that these spaces are not merely relics of the past but integral parts of everyday cultural experiences—open, accessible, and deeply connected to the community."
Beyond local initiatives, this memorandum aspires to elevate Prizren’s cultural heritage onto the international stage by integrating it into global networks of art and cultural institutions. Through the Autostrada Biennale, the city is set to welcome artists, curators, researchers, and visitors from around the world, positioning Prizren not only as a regional hub for contemporary art but also as a significant player on the global cultural scene.
