Nathan Coley (b. 1967) lives and works in Glasgow.
I Don’t Have Another Land (2022)
An idea of impermanence and transformation aligns with Nathan Coley’s I Don’t Have Another Land (2022), which draws inspiration from graffiti he encountered in Jerusalem. Acknowledging the complexity of the contexts his pieces inhabit, Coley reflects on the power of language in shaping viewers’ perceptions. Each person brings their own values and beliefs to the interpretation of the words, which are further shaped by their surroundings. Installed in the Prizren Innovation and Training Park—a site rich in history, from its origins as an Ottoman military camp to its later use as a German Bundeswehr base—the work connects to the park’s reinvention as a dynamic space for artistic and cultural exchange.
Coley graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1989 and was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2007. His work has been widely exhibited and is held in numerous public and private collections worldwide.
