The fourth edition of Autostrada Biennale officially launches its journey with Sunflower Fields 2023 in Prishtina and Prizren.

Autostrada Biennale is proud to announce the continuation of Sunflower Fields, a project by pioneering feminist artist Agnes Denes that focuses on the questions of ecology. Sunflower Fields 2023 aims to highlight the pivotal role of art in society and invites the public to co-create and co-own the artistic production.

In front of the Autostrada Hangar in ITP Prizren, and in the Ex-Brick Factory in Prishtina sunflower seeds are being planted, together with environmental activists, students, kids, Mayor of Prizren Shaqir Totaj, Mayor of Prishtina Perparim Rama and our partners from ITP and Gjerman Embassy who join our team for the 22 April in the International Earth Day.

From New York, Agnes Denes sends a heartwarming message to Prishtina and Prizren, stating that “When things grow, blossom, life is expressing its transformations and secrets. Watch, listen, and participate. We all can be like sunflowers, grow, nourish, endow others with our richness, turn to the sun, then reflect its warmth to all living creatures.”

The curators, Övül Ö. Durmusoglu and Joanna Warsza, highlight the importance of continuation when it comes to artistic projects that desire to change our vision of living together. They say, "In her 1969 Manifesto Agnes Denes declared that she wants to leave the ivory tower of her studio and enter the world of global concerns, to communicate the incommunicable, visualize the invisible, not accept the limitations society has accepted.”

The fourth edition of Autostrada Biennale is curated by Övül Ö. Durmusoglu and Joanna Warsza and will take place from 7 July to 9 September 2023 in Prizren, Prishtina and Mitrovica.

Sunflower Fields 2023 by Agnes Denes is presented by the Autostrada Biennale in partnership with ITP Prizren, Prizren Municipality and Prishtina Municipality.
