We had the pleasure of hosting a conversation with Hong-Kai Wang, artist of the fourth edition of the Autostrada Biennale, and Joanna Warsza and Övül Ö. Durmuşoğlu co-curators of the edition.

Hong-Kai Wang is an interdisciplinary artist based in Taipei, Taiwan who works across exhibition making, performance, publication, and workshop that involve collective, pedagogical, and embodied practices of sociality. Her research-based practice is informed by the unceasing tension between languages, ideologies, identities, and knowledge. 

At the beginning of the conversation, Hong-Kai talked about her project called "Hazzeh", which she started in 2019 and is still ongoing, and which was also located in the former radio station in Prizren for the 4th edition of the Autostrada Biennale. She showed us some photos, videos and clips of how she worked with young Palestinian and Jordanian women who sang "Nuwah" and mourned together about the rifts and problems in different places in Northern Jordan and Palestine. 

The conversation continued with the presentation of the workshop "Breathing to Think, Singing to Free," which took place a few days before the closing day. It was led by Hong-Kai Wang, Besa Berberi (Associate Professor of Singing & Opera Singer) and Övül Ö. Durmuşoğlu. The workshop was about using breath and singing as a way of thinking and expressing ourselves, and the conversation ended with a discussion of the topics and answering questions from the audience.
