Two of the three co-founding directors of Autostrada Biennale, Leutrim Fishekqiu and Vatra Abrashi, had the honor of visiting Porto, following a kind invitation from the city’s Mayor, Rui Moreira.
This visit was a continuation of Mayor Moreira's visit to Autostrada Hangar in Prizren last June, during which both parties discussed common interests in cultural exchange and cooperation. The recent meeting in Porto further solidified these discussions and opened up possibilities for joint residency programs and artistic exchange initiatives between the Autostrada Biennial and Porto's cultural institutions.
The directors immersed themselves in Porto's vibrant cultural scene and held inspiring meetings with key institutions and their leaders to explore opportunities for collaboration:
Municipal Gallery (Galeria Municipal do Porto - GMP)
The visit began at GMP, where director João Laia led a tour of the gallery, which is renowned for its important role in promoting local and international artists and curators. Discussions focused on potential collaborations, including artist residency programs and initiatives to promote Kosovar and Portuguese artists.
Campus Paulo Cunha e Silva
Next, the directors visited this innovative center for the performing arts. Artistic Director Drew Klein and Coordinator Joana Ferreira shared insights into their sustainable practices and how local artists use the space for experimentation. The exchange highlighted shared values in supporting creativity and innovation.
Porto Design Biennale
At the end of their visit, the directors of the Autostrada Biennale held fruitful discussions with Magda Seifert, director of the Porto Design Biennale. Discussions focused on creating a joint educational program that brings together artists, designers, and architects through hands-on workshops and exhibitions.
The Autostrada Biennale team is deeply grateful for the warm welcome received and the opportunity to connect with Porto’s thriving artistic community. This visit has sparked new ideas and strengthened the foundation for future collaborations that will enrich both cultural landscapes.
Thank you, Porto!
